Guide for the use of the FAP-USH-6 - Universal Specimen Holder with the FAP - Frazier Air Permeability Tester

Air Permeability User Manual

Universal Specimen Cutter for cutting 3.5" dia samples up to 6" thick for use in the Universal Specimen Holder.

Note: When not in use, the Universal Specimen Holder should be kept in a uninserted position (base, holder, and sleeve should be separated) with rubber seals facing upward and protected from dirt. If Sleeve or Holder units become stuck in outer unit - pull out while twisting.

Due to the sensitive nature of airflow there will be a slight bias (measuring difference) between using the Universal Specimen Holder and standard Frazier Air Perm sample clamp. This difference will be greater at higher air flow ranges (ie. larger nozzle sizes). Therefore when recording results it should be noted that tests were performed using the Universal Specimen Holder-6 (example: air flow = 35 cfm @ 0.5" DP using USH-6 (and also if any type of mesh units were used)).

Steps for use:

For Solid Specimens: cut solid specimens into cylinders 3.5" in diameter up to 6" thick.

1. Move standard sample clamp into the open position

2. Seat the FAP-USH-6-Base on the standard sample opening.

3. Insert specimen to be tested into the FAP-USH-6-Holder.

4. Insert Holder into the Base.

5. Insert FAP-USH-6-Sleeve into the Holder above the specimen.

6. Test the specimen using the standard testing procedures (see FAP Manual).

7. Record results noting that test was performed using the USH (example: air flow = 35 cfm @ 0.5" DP using USH).

8. Remove Sleeve.

9. Remove Holder.

10. Remove Specimen.

Additional Holders can be purchased so that they can be loaded with specimens to be tested while Holder with current specimen is being tested.

 

For Loose Specimens: loose materials can be measured into the Holder using FAP-USH-6-Mesh on bottom and top (optional) up to 5 " thick.

1. Move standard sample clamp into the open position

2. Seat the FAP-6-USH-Base on the standard sample opening.

      2a. Insert FAP-6-USH-Mesh into FAP-6-USH-Holder.

3. Insert specimen to be tested into the FAP-6-USH-Holder over Mesh.

4. Insert Holder into the Base.

     4a. Insert top Mesh over sample (optional).

5. Insert FAP-USH-6-Sleeve into the Holder above the specimen and Mesh (if applicable).

6. Test the specimen using the standard testing procedures (see FAP-Manual).

7. Record results noting that test was performed using the USH (example: air flow = 35 cfm @ 0.5" DP using USH and note type of Mesh used). Depending on the type of mesh used, air flow results could be significantly different than results using standard sample clamp with no mesh or USH with no mesh. Note: The net airflow value of a sample is not equal to the tested airflow minus the airflow value of just the mesh.

8. Remove Sleeve and top Mesh (if applicable).

9. Remove Holder.

10. Remove Specimen and bottom Mesh.

11. Make sure that both mesh units are clean before testing next sample.

Additional Holders and Mesh units can be purchased so that they can be loaded with specimens to be tested while Holder with current specimen is being tested.
